CITATION – JULIE ASHTON-LUCY
Awarded for contribution to Hockey.
Julie has ben an active member of the Gold Coast Hockey Association since leaving her home town of Gympie many years ago and has been involved in all aspects of hockey including playing, coaching, managing, mentoring and officiating since she was a junior herself.
Julie became an international umpire in 1995 and has umpired over 160 international matches in 19 major tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and 2006 and in each of the last three Olympic Games. She was awarded the Golden Whistle in 2008 after achieving the honour of umpiring 100 international matches.
Julie has been a Queensland representative player, continues to play in the Gold Coast competition and offers constant support to the Association’s young athletes. She is also involved within the Association coaching athletes at State level and achieving great results with the Association’s representative teams through the Gold Coast Hockey Academy.
She is an outstanding role model and her continual support to the Hockey Association in promoting, mentoring, educating and inspiring both junior and senior umpires is nothing short of exceptional.
Julie is an outstanding ambassador for Hockey in Australia and on the Gold Coast. She has displayed outstanding qualities both on the field and off and has earned the respect and admiration of al those who have played with her and those she has umpired.
