Robbie McEwen is one of Australia’s most decorated professional cyclists.
He was the 1999, 2002 and 2005 Australian Male Road Cyclist of the Year and the 2002 and 2005 Australian Cyclist of the Year.

He is a triple Olympian and a three-time winner of the Tour de France’s green jersey sprinter’s classification. At his peak he was considered one of the fastest sprinters in the world.

The former Australian BMX junior champion switched to road racing in 1990 at the age of 18 and it was at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra under the A.I.S. road cycling coach Heiko Salwdel that he gained his first selection for the Australian national road team in 1994.

The first signs of his sprinting prowess on the international stage were at the 1994 Peace Race in the Czech Republic where he won three stages for the Australian national team.

Robbie competed in the road race at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games where he finished 23rd and at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games where he finished 19th.

Robbie was again selected for Australia at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games as part of the road race team of Michael Rogers, Stuart O'Grady, Baden Cooke, and Matthew White.

He was also included on the Australian team for the 1994 UCI Road Cycling World Championship in Italy and the 2002 UCI Road Cycling World Championship in Belgium, where he won a silver medal.

In December 2010, after the failure of the Australian-registered Pegasus team to obtain a UCI Professional Continental licence, Robbie rode for Team RadioShack after securing a contract with Johan Bruyneel's squad at the last minute.

In September 2011 he joined the new Australian team Orica-GreenEDGE, which obtained a ProTeam licence for the 2012 season. It was to be his final season as a rider before becoming a technical advisor to the team.

He is married to his Belgian-born wife Angélique Pattyn. They have a son Ewan and daughters Elena and Claudia.
