Place of Birth:

Brisbane

Inducted:

Jenny has lived on the Gold Coast since 1984 by which time she had already won the Australian 3000m, New Zealand Cross Country and the Australian 1500m track titles under her maiden name of Green.

Always a keen distance runner, she was a student at Brisbane State High School when she won the QSSSA girls' 1500m in her first race on a track. Jenny went on to represent Queensland from 1976 until 1992 in events as varied as the 1500m, 3000m, 10 000m, Cross Country and the 10 000m and 15 000m road races for a total of 36 caps.

If there was a disappointment during Jenny's career it was that she missed selection in the Australian team for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. But she had much for which to be proud, having represented Australia seven times each in World Cross Country titles and Ekiden and Chiba Relays, and three times in World Road Races.

Jenny was also a member of Australia's Commonwealth Games Team in Auckland in 1990, the year in which she won the Australian Open Cross Country title, the Zatopek 10 000m and the Gold Coast Sportman's Association Outstanding Achievement Award.

Jenny put much of herself into athletics, and the sport rewarded her with trips all over world, allowing her to run in places such as Portugal, Switzerland, Poland, Norway, France, Belgium, Korea, the United States, China, Japan and New Zealand as well as Australia for a total of 22 caps. She also was the first woman to twice win the Burnie Ten in Tasmania, taking out the event in 1990 and again in 1991.

Jenny won the Gold Coast half marathon in 1984, 1986 and 1990 and 1992 placed fourth in the gruelling Honolulu Marathon before competing in an Ekiden Relay in Seoul. Her commitment to the sport of athletics has been outstanding, an interest she maintains.

She was instrumental in forming a track club on the Gold Coast, has triathlon and athletics coaching qualifications and coaches both distance runners and triathletes. Jenny is an outstanding example of an athlete who remained dedicated to her sport after closing the book on her own glowing career.
