Gold Coast Sports Awards Announces New Sponsor
THE Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame has raised its glass to beer company Fosters ? the new sponsor of the Gold Coast Sportsperson of the Year Awards ? which will be held at the Southport Sharks AFL Club on Friday February 16th at 7:00pm.
The new sponsors have pledged a four figured amount to help celebrate the return of the awards in gala dinner format.
The event, now known as the Carlton Mid Gold Coast Sportsperson of the Year, will be a face-off between top leading sportspeople such as hockey player Nikki Hudson, surfer Mick Fanning and triathlete Emma Snowsill to claim the title of Gold Coast Sportsperson of the Year.
The winner of the inaugural Southport Sharks Youth Sports Development Fund will also be announced at the function.
The objectives of this newly-created Fund are to recognise, inspire and assist gifted young Gold Coast sportspersons reach their sporting potential.
Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame Secretary, Paul Stevens, said that although this is the first year the awards have been presented in a gala dinner format, he is confident it will become 'a highly anticipated annual event.'
'These awards have attracted attention from top players in the sporting world and we are certain that within a very short space of time, this function will become a feature of the Gold Coast sporting calendar,' Mr Stevens said.
Over 250 guests are expected to attend to honour our top Gold Coast athletes and give the opportunity for young sportspeople to mingle with their sporting idols.
